Giving TuesdayS Are Here! Celebrate Cats All November Long!!
It is almost here! Giving Tuesday! To celebrate, every Tuesday in November we will spotlight some of the ways MWHS helps cats in our community – all leading up to Giving Tuesday on December 2nd!
On any given day, MWHS cares for 90 – 100 cats at our shelter and in foster homes. When cats are entrusted to us, we ensure they receive exceptional veterinary care — including treatment by specialists when needed. This sets us apart from many other rescues.
Week 1 – November 4th
Fixing Felines!
Of course, these cats weren’t broken, but they did need a little help! As of November 1, 2025, MWHS has neutered 38 male cats and spayed 33 female cats, for a total of 71 cats who will not have more kittens.
Cat overpopulation is a serious concern in our community, state, and country. The benefits of spaying and neutering are well known to cat lovers like you!
Week 2 – November 11th
Keeping Their Hearts Healthy and Ours Full!
Studies show, heart disease affects one in seven cats. In 2025, MWHS helped 11 cats who needed bloodwork, echocardiograms, medications, and cardiology follow-ups.
These special cats often stay with us for a long period of time, since not everyone is ready to adopt a cat with ongoing medical needs. That’s why we ensure as many as possible are placed in loving foster homes where stress is minimized.
Week 3 – November 18th
We Love Their Smiles!
Dental health is so important for cats, especially seniors, former outdoor cats, or those with FIV or past injuries. This year alone, we’ve helped 10 cats get the dental care they needed.
Anyone who’s had a cat or dog go through a dental procedure knows how expensive it can be, depending on the severity — but untreated dental problems can cause real pain and discomfort. MWHS cats may not have their forever families yet, but they’re deeply loved and cared for by all of us!
Week 4 – November 25th
Planning for a Rainy Day!
In rescue work, you never know what each day will bring. Unexpected medical needs arise all the time – an ultrasound for a cat who suddenly stops eating, a trapped cat with a wound or possibly broken leg. Some require emergency care or surgery.
These situations are difficult to plan for, as costs can range from minimal to significant. So far this year, we’ve provided this kind of critical, unplanned care for 23 cats. We’re so grateful for our incredible veterinary partners who are always there when the unexpected happens.
The Big Day! December 2nd
Giving Tuesday!
We know this year has been a hard one for many. If you’re not able to give as you have in the past, we completely understand. If you’re able to give, any amount makes a difference and helps us continue to be there for the cats who need us most.
If you can’t give monetarily right now, there are still many ways to help:
- Drop off some canned food next time you’re near the shelter
- Share our story with your cat-loving friends
- Keep us in your thoughts this Giving Tuesday
Thanks to supporters like you, MWHS will always be here for our cats!
