September 14, 2026 marks 50 years of lifesaving work for MetroWest Humane Society. What began as a small group of dedicated animal lovers blossomed over time into the beloved organization we know today. Throughout those 50 years, we have saved thousands of cats from uncertainty and touched countless lives through community. We’ve built a family we are proud to be a part of within a community we are proud to call home.
Thank you to everyone who has devoted, and continues to devote, their time, money, and love to MetroWest Humane Society and the cats we work so hard to serve and heal. We would not be where we are today, 50 years later, without your support and friendship! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Here’s to another amazing 50 years to come! Buy our kitties some catnip, refreshments, and party favors to keep the celebration going.
Read the Story of MWHS
In 2022, the MetroWest Humane Society (MWHS) Board of Directors decided to begin compiling the history of MWHS, in anticipation of our beloved organization celebrating its milestone fiftieth anniversary in 2026. MWHS volunteer Julia Altman interviewed longtime volunteers Leslie Croci-Reed (then MWHS Board President) and Linda Locke, inviting them to share their memories of MWHS through the years. Leslie and Linda were happy to oblige, and we recorded their reflections and stories on video. Julia then compiled their recollections into the first draft of an article.
So, what better time than our fiftieth anniversary, to share the history of MWHS through Leslie and Linda’s memories. Heartfelt thanks to these two very special volunteers who put their hearts and souls into our organization for so many years to help our very special cats, and to Julia for helping to preserve these memories. We hope you enjoy this walk down Memory Lane! Read the story here!
